Sheila
Platt, MSW, ACSW - Director for External Relations
(based in New York City, USA)
Ms. Platt has served with
CFSI since 1987. She is a clinical social worker specializing in consultation and training around issues of crisis and critical event stress management owing to tragedies, complex emergencies, and natural disasters. Ms. Platt has held counseling positions in Japan, Zambia, the Philippines, and Pakistan. She has been a Consultant for the United Nations Secretariat in New York, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), governments, and international as well as national nongovernmental organizations.
Ms. Platt has produced educational materials on crisis and stress management for diplomats, humanitarian workers, health and social services personnel, human rights specialists, and journalists. She lectures at various
universities and represents CFSI at appropriate gatherings of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as well as the NGO Committee on Mental Health. In addition to serving as
CFSI's Director for External Relations, on a pro bono basis, Ms. Platt is a Member the Board of Trustees of
CFSI and actively involved in staff training and
leadership development. As such, she travels regularly to the
Philippines, including field sites, and is actively involved in
resource mobilization efforts. A citizen of the United States
and based in New York City, Ms. Platt is a graduate of Trinity
College and earned her Master of Social Work degree at Catholic
University in Washington, DC.
